Voltron: Defender of the Universe is a 30-minute animated television series aired from September 10, 1984 to November 18, 1985. World Events Productions produced the series and introduced Volton to the world. The story is about the adventures of 5 lion robots together with their pilots called the Volron Force as they defend the planet Arus and the galaxy from the forces of Planet Doom led by King Zarkon and Prince Lotor. The individual robots are joined together to form a giant super robot. The series is actually an excerpt from two unrelated Japanese anime series, the Beast King Golion and Armored Fleet Dairugger VX. Producers edit the two series to comply with US children's television standards and made an American conversion of the series.
